Outreach at the Discovery Building

Connecting the Community to UW Research

Visitors young and old experience the vibrancy of UW-Madison science through robust outreach programs at the Discovery Building that reach tens of thousands of community members annually.

The Discovery Connections team supports dozens of events and programs in the building and beyond. Through a partnership with UW-Madison, many of these programs address topics that matter to our community and state and are the subject of research at the university. Discovery Connections also helps extend the university’s impact beyond the lab by partnering with researchers to develop Broader Impacts as part of their grant work.

WID’s Science to Street Art program is a collaborative initiative that aims to visually inspire Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) education and careers through the innovative planning, design and management of public spaces known as Placemaking.

Meet the Lab is a partnership among WARF, Morgridge, WID and PBS Wisconsin Education that offers a collection of educational resources for middle school science classrooms. The collection features WID and Morgridge researchers studying cancer, virology, data and more.

And the weeklong Wisconsin Science Festival, headquartered at the Discovery Building, is a statewide celebration of science and curiosity with activities for people throughout Wisconsin.
